Inhale…exhale…relea–relea–release. Letting go is difficult, and healing is not easy. Pain and trauma are held in our hearts and carried in our bodies, impeding our growth and stalling our lives. Still, we must try to ease our tension. In this sculpture, Valerie Asiimwe Amani offers suggestions as to how we might do so; she pierces holes to drain some out, provides a weight to keep us grounded, and threads paths to guide us forward. The Tension in Your Eye displays how this process begins with guided self-reflection and intentional proximities.
