With these works, Abu Fofana explores a new material in his paintings: sand. The textures of the pieces are reminiscent of mud bricks and dusty roads, displaying the endless possibilities of creation. The flat depiction of the women, imaged in profile with striking features, evokes their portrayal in Senegalese glass paintings, known as souwères. The unilateral directions in which they are facing, together with the baskets and water pots that Fofana blends on their heads, suggests a united path forward.
